The research application “Development of a Byzantine failure-tolerant distribution system suitable for a geographically dispersed environment” was accepted by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C).

This research project deals with BFT replication, which can realize failure tolerance against Byzantine failure for any service defined as a state machine. Geographical BFT-SMR is a BFT replication in a geographically distributed environment and has become easier to realize with the development of public cloud services. However, in a geographically distributed environment, it is known that the processing performance of a service is limited due to the following two problems.

  • Network fluctuations such as variations in communication bandwidth and disconnection of communication links
  • Strong behavior of a Byzantine replica

In this research project, we aim to realize an efficient Geographical BFT-SMR method that can eliminate these bottlenecks.

Please see KAKEN (Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Database) for the detail of this research project.
